Opening Ceremony revived ’80s brand Skidz in a recent collection, and now the retailer’s Los Angeles location is helping Dries Van Noten pay homage to the 1960s and 1970s with a nostalgic pop-up.
The installation is set at Opening Ceremony L.A.’s Little House space and encompasses the Belgian label’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection, which honors and was inspired by Danish interior designer Verner Panton. This assortment marks the first time that Panton — known for influencing vibrant and psychedelic designs through his work in the ’60s and ’70s — has allowed a fashion brand to infuse his work onto clothes. Within the range, patterns and prints are offered in a rainbow of colors that are emphasized with large-scale photographs of Panton’s interior projects plastered around the shop. The boutique marks the only spot in Los Angeles to house the artsy pop-up, and will also include exclusive footwear and bags.
In addition to the special in-store capsule, Dries Van Noten created a record to celebrate the launch. The soundtrack evokes a retro mood through DJ Jaydee’s song “Plastic Dreams” and Piero Umiliani’s “Problemtica Giovanile.” Scroll below to watch everything in action in a new campaign video posted on Dries Van Noten’s Instagram.
